Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 24, 2026

Focusbox is built local-first. Your timer, your task list, and your notes live on your own device, and we never see them — unless you decide to create an account and turn on cloud sync. This policy explains exactly what we collect, when, and why.

The short version:

The Focusbox app works completely offline and stores your data on your device. We only receive information about you if you take a deliberate step: visiting our website, joining our email list, creating a Focusbox account to sync your data, or subscribing to a paid plan. We don't sell your data, ever.

1Who we are

Focusbox is operated by Momentum Minds LLC, a limited liability company organized in New Mexico, USA ("Focusbox", "we", "us", or "our"). This policy applies to the Focusbox website at focusbox.net, the Focusbox desktop application, and the optional Focusbox account and cloud-sync service.

For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected]. For these purposes, Momentum Minds LLC is the data controller.

2Data that stays on your device

When you use the Focusbox desktop app without an account, everything you create — timer settings, tasks, and notes — is stored locally on your computer. We do not collect it, transmit it, or have any way to access it. The app does not require an account to use, and its core features work entirely offline.

3Information we collect

We only collect personal information in the specific situations below.

a) When you create a Focusbox account and use cloud sync

  • Account details: your email address and a password (which we store only as a salted hash — we never store your password in plain text).
  • Synced content: if you enable cloud sync, the app content you choose to sync — your tasks, notes, and timer settings — is stored on our servers so it can be available across your devices.

b) When you subscribe to a paid plan

Focusbox is free to use. If you choose an optional paid subscription, payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not receive or store your full card number. Stripe provides us with limited billing information — such as your subscription status, the last four digits of your card, the card brand, and your billing country — so we can manage your subscription. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.

c) When you use the app (diagnostics)

The app may collect anonymous usage and crash-diagnostic data to help us find bugs and understand which features are used. This data is not tied to your identity and does not include the contents of your tasks or notes.

d) When you visit our website

  • Analytics: we use privacy-respecting web analytics to count visits and understand how the site is used (for example, which pages are viewed and roughly where visitors come from). This is aggregate and does not identify you personally.
  • Email list: if you sign up for updates, we collect the email address you provide and use it only to send you Focusbox news and product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
  • Server logs: like most websites and online services, our servers automatically record technical data such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps for security and reliability.

4How we use your information

  • To provide and operate your account and the cloud-sync service.
  • To process and manage your subscription and payments.
  • To send service-related messages (for example, password resets, billing notices, and important changes).
  • To send product updates and news, if you opted in to our email list.
  • To diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve the app and website.
  • To keep our services secure and prevent fraud and abuse.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Where required by law (for example, under the GDPR), we rely on the following bases: performance of a contract (running your account and subscription), your consent (the email list and non-essential analytics), and our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improving the product).

5Sharing and service providers

We do not sell your personal information, and we never will. We share information only with the service providers we rely on to run Focusbox, and only as needed for them to perform their function:

  • Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
  • Our hosting and cloud infrastructure provider — to store accounts and synced data.
  • Our analytics and crash-reporting tools — to measure usage and diagnose errors.
  • Our email delivery provider — to send account and (if you opted in) marketing emails.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Focusbox or others. If Momentum Minds LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you of any such change.

6Cookies and analytics

Our website uses a minimal set of cookies and similar technologies for essential functionality and for the privacy-respecting analytics described above. The Focusbox desktop app does not use advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers. We do not run advertising networks on any of our services.

7Data retention

We keep your account and synced data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your synced content and account details within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records (such as billing records) to meet legal, accounting, or tax obligations. Email-list data is kept until you unsubscribe.

8Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed password storage, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure, so while we work hard to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information ("right to be forgotten").
  • Export a copy of your synced data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent (for example, by unsubscribing from emails).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA; if you are in the EU/UK, you have rights under the GDPR — both are honored through the same contact above.

10International users

Focusbox is operated from the United States. If you access our services from outside the US, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using Focusbox, you understand that your information may be processed in countries whose data-protection laws may differ from those of your country.

11Children's privacy

Focusbox is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Creating a paid subscription requires you to be at least 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

12Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we'll provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of Focusbox after an update means you accept the revised policy.
